Rainforest Orienteering

Group size:

Whole class working in groups of 4-6

Resources:

• Small wooden toys/soft toys/laminated pictures of the following categories of objects found in the rainforest :  plants, insects, foods, animals, birds. Five objects in each category should be hidden in an outdoor area.
• Five maps of the outdoor area suitably labelled with the whereabouts of the ‘creatures’. One map for each category.
• One tick sheet per group depicting each category of object
• Clipboards and pens

Activity:

Groups are given one map at a time to help them find the hidden objects. They mark the objects off on their tick sheets, returning to base when all five have been found. The adult may time each group to make the game competitive. Maps are swapped until every group has found all the objects in each category.
