The Cloud Institute’s Education for Sustainability Criteria

Use the following criteria to evaluate lessons for sustainability. Lessons should include at least one EfS standard/performance indicator.

Curriculum Maps are filled out properly including assessments and exemplary student work samples

Lessons are factually accurate and sources and references are cited

Mini lessons or handouts with current data on climate change and the losses associated with the destruction of rainforests are taught with an understanding that they represent our current reality.  We are here as a result of the history of our thinking and our related behavior and this current reality is not indicative of what is possible, desirable or inevitable.  We can, we must and we will turn it around and we need everyone’s help and cooperation.

Inter-relationships/interdependence between at least two variables are described in reciprocal terms (this impacts that and that impacts this and other things right back…)

Knowledge is linked to action for positive change that solves more than one problem at a time and minimizes the creation of new problems
